Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Omicron Chapter

Our vision

The Omicron Chapter of Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. helps empower its members into graduating from a university lacking a representation of California’s different minority groups that is Cal Poly, SLO. The chapter helps create a community amongst its brothers who come from diverse backgrounds—undocumented, first-generation, LGBTQ, low-income students, minority students (Latino, Native American, Black, African-American, Middle Eastern, Asian, etc.). By creating this community, we are creating a support network that goes beyond academics, but also supports each and every one of its members at a personal level.

Through this support network we focus on our three pillars, Academics, Brotherhood and Community Service. The first, Academics, is the most important. Most of the members of the organization come from first-generation background, so we value and prioritize our academics. The second pillar is our Brotherhood, and that is the glue that maintains the organization thriving. Here at Omicron Chapter, we create a family away from home to cope with the culture shock of being a minority student at Cal Poly. Last but not least, the Omicron Chapter values giving back to the community by having community service events where we give back directly to those who share our similar backgrounds such as high school students from impoverished areas or incoming students who are minority and first-generation.

The vision of the Omicron Chapter keeps growing and expanding. The measurement of our success is through the strength of our brotherhood that goes beyond the time spent at Cal Poly.
