2012 Academic Decathlon

Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was invited to speak at the 2012 California State Academic Decathlon on their last day of their state competition.

National Director of Community Affairs, Jesse Rosales, gave the Academic Decathlon competitors words of encouragement, not only for the event, but for their futures as well. “The brothers of Gamma Zeta Alpha do not only encourage our own fraternity members and friends to succeed in college, but we also encourage the youth inour home and university community’s to continue into college after high school. We are proud to have Academic Decathlon as one of our philanthropy’s because it allows us to; help make academics enjoyable for youth, allows usto provide a visual for youth- showing that we made it to college and that you can too, and also creates for us a
pathway to encourage youth to achieve their academic potential”.

Earlier that day, brothers from; Epsilon Chapter, Gamma Chapter, Mu Chapter, Theta Chapter, and Tau Chapter, provided onsite assistance for the State Competition as Speech and Interview Judges and Super Quiz Proctors. A total of 43 brothers participated in the state competition in Sacramento. National Director of Community Affairs,
Jesse Rosales, was overcome with thank yous from parents and volunteers asking Jesse to extend their gratitude to the rest of the fraternity for their involvement. Also, many Academic Decathlon staff members went to him and praised the volunteers from Gamma Zeta Alpha, commenting on the fraternity’s dedication, professionalism, and help that is displayed year after year in their regions.

Each year, brothers from around the state assist with Academic Decathlon regional events where locations include but are not limited to; North Bay, Contra Costa, Ventura, San Joaquin, Kings, Los Angeles, San Diego, Glenn, Tulare, Lake, and Sacramento.

In total, 266 brothers of Gamma Zeta Alpha, alumni and undergraduate alike, volunteered in Academic Decathlon this year. In total, our volunteers have logged in over 1,500 hours of community service from the first regionalcompetition in January to the state competition in mid-March.
