In 1987 at Chico State University, fifteen entrepreneur gentlemen coming from diverse backgrounds decided to form a support group for the underrepresented Latinos at Chico State. They felt the need for a support group from which less fortunate Latino males could benefit from. The group was to be founded under three principles; academic excellence, community service, and brotherhood. Then, in December 3, 1987 Gamma Zeta Alpha was established. To everyone’s surprise, Gamma Zeta Alpha became more than a support group. What those fifteen gentlemen begun was a whole new FAMILIA. Twenty years later, Gamma Zeta Alpha has grown and expanded to more than brothers and fifteen strong chapters across California. With 70% of the brothers being alumni, Gamma Zeta Alpha has found a way to incorporate itself into the communities. Varying from Doctors. lawyers to scholars, we have it all.
Throughout the twenty years of existence, Gamma Zeta Alpha has incorporated itself at several universities all across California, including Chico State University, San Jose State University, UC Berkeley, CSU Northridge, CSU Fresno, San Diego State University, UCLA, UC Davis, Stanford University, UC Santa Barbara, CSU Monterey Bay, Sacramento State, UC San Diego, CSU Los Angeles, and Cal Poly.
The Mu Chapter at Sacramento was established on May 9, 2003 by ten young visionaries who felt the need for a support group whose’ main emphasis is to help every brother make it to the top of the pyramid and succeed at the University level and beyond. The Mu Chapter is comprised of different majors; ranging from engineers, to leisure studies, design majors. Our presence has already been felt at Sacramento State, throughout our community service and social interactions with other organizations on campus.
